The University of Basra Organizes a Seminar on Drought and Desertification and Their Impact on Agriculture in Iraq
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar entitled “Drought and Desertification and Their Impact on Agriculture in Iraq,” aiming to highlight the environmental challenges facing the agricultural sector.
The seminar, presented by the lecturer Haya Mohammed Reda Mahdi, focused on identifying the causes that have exacerbated the phenomena of drought and desertification over the past five years, and their repercussions on agricultural and production realities, while also proposing appropriate solutions to address this issue.
The seminar included a review of the causes of drought and desertification in Iraq and the problems resulting from them, particularly the decline in plant production.
It also addressed proposed solutions to improve agricultural productivity, particularly through the utilization of rainwater as a water reserve for drought seasons, thereby contributing to enhanced agricultural sustainability.
