University of Basrah Organizes Scientific Lecture on DNA to Treatment
The College of Dentistry at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture entitled “From DNA to Treatment: Gene Therapy and Genetically Modified Cells for Rare Diseases.”
The lecture aimed to enhance students’ scientific awareness of the latest developments in gene therapy and modern biotechnology, and to provide them with academic knowledge linking the molecular foundations of diagnosis with advanced therapeutic applications.
The lecture, presented by Dr. Hiba Al-Rahman Riyadh Rakad, addressed the qualitative development in modern medicine, from understanding the molecular structure of DNA to the applications of gene therapy.
The lecturer pointed out that some of these techniques have proven their clinical efficacy, while others are still under development and experimentation. She emphasized the importance of addressing the challenges related to treatment costs, the sustainability of results, and ensuring long-term safety.
