University of Basrah Organizes Scientific Lecture on Absurd Theatre: Themes and Symbols
The Center for Continuing Education and Development at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture entitled “Absurd Theatre: Themes and Symbols,” targeting students of the English Department at the College of Arts.
The lecture aimed to highlight absurd theatre as one of the most prominent movements of twentieth-century drama and a core subject for fourth-year students.
Delivered by Dr. Noor Mohammed Noor Al-Din, the lecture addressed the origins of absurd theatre, the reasons behind its emergence, its defining characteristics, and its leading pioneers. It also reviewed its major themes and symbols, with particular emphasis on the play “Waiting for Godot.”
The lecturer recommended engaging with existentialist philosophy and attending theatrical performances to deepen critical understanding.
