University of Basrah Holds a Scientific Lecture on Waiting for Godot
The Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basrah held a scientific lecture entitled “Waiting for Godot: Themes and Symbolism,” targeting students of the Department of English at the College of Arts.
The lecture aimed to analyze the play as one of the most prominent works of the Theatre of the Absurd and a core text for fourth-year students.
Delivered by Dr. Noor Mohammed Noor Al-Din, the lecture presented a detailed examination of the text, including the deconstruction of its structure, analysis of its dramatic form, and exploration of its philosophical dimensions related to existentialism and nihilism.
It also reviewed its central themes—such as waiting, repetition, and monotony—and its symbolic elements, including the tree, the hat, and dualities, emphasizing the significance of the experience of waiting in deepening the understanding of the text.
