University of Basrah Discusses the Arabic Language and Artificial Intelligence: A Struggle for Survival or Opportunities for Advancement
The Continuing Education and Development Center at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture entitled “The Arabic Language and Artificial Intelligence: A Struggle for Survival or Opportunities for Advancement.”
The lecture aimed to connect the Arabic language with contemporary technological transformations and to raise critical questions about the impact of artificial intelligence on its future.
Delivered by Dr. Ashwaq Ghazi Al-Yasiri, the lecture addressed the role of linguistic corpora in training intelligent models and highlighted the importance of their diversity in improving the quality of Arabic texts.
The lecture also discussed key challenges, including semantic ambiguity, morphological complexity, and the gap between Modern Standard Arabic and colloquial dialects.
It emphasized the importance of developing digital linguistic resources and promoting scientific research to ensure the sustained presence of Arabic in the digital landscape.
