PhD Dissertation at the University of Basra Explores Ergodic Theory in Relational Art
A PhD dissertation at the College of Fine Arts, University of Basrah, explored "Ergodic Theory in Relational Art: An Analytical Study."
The dissertation, submitted by researcher Alaa Hazem Salem, aimed to demonstrate that art in general, and relational art in particular, is a social product. Consequently, sociologists have adopted it as a source of knowledge to study the intellectual development of audiences and their capacity to create artwork through the communication and relationships between them.
The dissertation addressed the theme of relational art, highlighting its shared characteristics, similar objectives, and reliance on what can be termed theories of relationships between its practitioners.
The dissertation concluded that combining art and science in this research is beneficial because the latter is theoretical, while art is applied. The goal of art is to achieve beauty, while the goal of science is to attain truth.
