The University of Basrah Organizes a Workshop on Genetic Engineering
The Central Library Directorate at the University of Basrah, in cooperation with the Student Activities Department, organized a workshop entitled “Genetic Engineering in the Balance of Religion and Society and Its Impact on Sports Fairness.”
The workshop aimed to highlight the significance of genetic engineering as an advanced scientific breakthrough, while addressing its various dimensions from therapeutic, religious, social, and athletic perspectives, in addition to raising awareness of its potential risks.
The workshop, delivered by Dr. Imad Faraj Badrawi, included a comprehensive presentation on the concept of genes and their role in the advancement of modern science, with a particular focus on the applications of genetic engineering in the therapeutic field. It also examined the religious and ethical considerations associated with this domain and its impact on social structures, as well as the effects of genetic modifications on mental and physical health. Furthermore, the workshop addressed the issue of sports fairness and the potential for its compromise as a result of genetic manipulation.
