University of Basrah Holds a Scientific Seminar on Overfishing and Its Environmental Challenges
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah organized a scientific seminar on overfishing and its environmental and societal consequences.
The seminar, delivered by Dr. Amjad Kadhim Rasan, aimed to shed light on the current state of fishing activities in the marshlands and Basrah Governorate, as well as the challenges associated with the sector.
The seminar addressed several major issues, including the depletion of fish stocks, declining biodiversity, and the growing number of conflicts among fishermen, in addition to the health risks resulting from illegal fishing practices. It also highlighted a field project implemented in northern Basrah to promote sustainability.
The seminar recommended raising environmental awareness and adopting sustainable fishing practices to preserve fish resources.
