The University of Basrah Organizes a Panel Discussion on Musical Influence in Arabic Poetry
The Basrah and Arabian Gulf Studies Center at the University of Basrah organized a panel discussion entitled “Musical Influence in Arabic Poetry: The Dialectic of Heritage and Renewal.”
The discussion aimed to trace the role of musical influence in Arabic poetry as one of its most significant aesthetic elements across different historical periods, while examining its contribution to shaping the artistic structure of poetic texts.
The session included a lecture delivered by lecturer Qasim Mohammed Salman, who explored the transformations of poetic rhythm from the pre-Islamic era to the modern age, culminating in free verse poetry, which introduced a significant shift in the musical structure of Arabic poetry.
The discussion recommended strengthening critical studies concerned with poetic musicality and keeping pace with stylistic developments in modern Arabic poetry.
