The University of Basrah Organizes a Workshop on Small Animal Dissection
The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah organized a workshop on “Methods of Small Animal Dissection and Histological Section Preparation.”
The workshop aimed to equip participants with both scientific and practical skills in small animal dissection and tissue section preparation, with a focus on proper sampling techniques and animal handling procedures to ensure accurate diagnostic outcomes in medical and veterinary research.
The program included theoretical lectures delivered by faculty members from the Department of Anatomy and Histology, covering the identification of small animals, methods of restraint and control, injection techniques, blood sampling procedures, and the preparation and humane euthanasia of animals prior to dissection, as well as an introduction to the objectives and procedures of dissection.
The second day focused on practical training in the histological sectioning laboratory, where instructors provided hands-on demonstrations of animal preparation and dissection techniques.
The workshop recommended the continuation of practical training in dissection and histological preparation, the adoption of updated methodologies in this field, and encouraging postgraduate students to engage in innovative scientific research.
