The University of Basrah Organizes a Workshop on Venous Blood Sample Collection
The College of Dentistry at the University of Basrah organized a scientific workshop on venous blood sample collection.
The workshop aimed to enhance the skills of students and healthcare personnel in performing blood collection safely and accurately, while raising awareness of the importance of selecting appropriate blood collection tubes according to laboratory test requirements. It also sought to reduce common errors that may affect the accuracy of results, ensuring sample quality and patient safety.
The workshop included a lecture delivered by lecturer Yusra Mazen Hassan, who discussed various blood collection methods with a particular focus on venipuncture. The session also covered the instruments used, types of blood collection tubes and their applications, the importance of patient preparation and identity verification, and adherence to proper collection techniques. In addition, the lecture addressed the issue of hemolysis and its impact on laboratory results.
