The University of Basrah Participates in an International Scientific Seminar on Autism
Dr. Hiba Majeed Issa, Director of the University Psychological Counseling Center at the University of Basrah, participated in an international online scientific seminar entitled “The Psychology of Isolation: Fragile Boundaries Between Technological Confinement and Autism Spectrum Disorders.”
The seminar addressed several themes related to the psychology of isolation, emphasizing that isolation is not always a voluntary choice but may result from digital transformations and their impact on cognition and concentration. It also highlighted the risks associated with excessive immersion in virtual environments, which may contribute to forms of social and behavioral isolation resembling symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
In addition, the seminar explored the distinctions between an individual’s tendency toward digital withdrawal, referred to as technological confinement, and the developmental symptoms associated with autism spectrum disorders.
The seminar recommended the responsible use of technology to prevent it from becoming a barrier that limits meaningful human communication.
