The University of Basrah Participates in a Regional Workshop on Mental Health
Dr. Hiba Majeed Issa, Director of the University Psychological Counseling Center at the University of Basrah, participated in a regional online workshop organized by the Arab Women Organization to present and discuss the findings of a study on the state of mental health among women and girls. The workshop brought together experts and specialists from several countries.
The workshop included multiple sessions during which participating countries presented their national reports. Discussions highlighted the importance of mental health as a fundamental component of quality of life and social and professional empowerment, while also addressing the challenges faced by women and girls in the field of mental health. The sessions further reviewed initiatives and measures undertaken to improve mental health services, alongside the presentation of a regional analytical report followed by an extensive discussion among participants. These exchanges contributed to the formulation of recommendations aimed at enhancing the quality and accessibility of mental health services for women and girls across the Arab region.
Dr. Hiba Majeed Issa noted that this participation reflects the University of Basrah’s commitment to supporting national and regional efforts focused on women’s mental health, fostering the exchange of expertise and experiences among Arab countries, and promoting greater awareness, psychological support, and the creation of safer and more inclusive environments.
