The University of Basrah Participates in an International Seminar Marking International Workers’ Day
Dr. Hiba Majeed Issa, Director of the University Psychological Counseling Center at the University of Basrah, participated in an international online seminar entitled “Toward Inclusive Justice: Empowering Women with Disabilities in Workspaces and Social Transformation.” The seminar was organized by the Women’s Affairs Division at the University of Tikrit and the College of Arts at the University of Kirkuk, in cooperation with the BRC Scientific International Foundation, with the participation of Arab and international academic institutions.
The seminar aimed to strengthen support and empowerment for women with disabilities across various areas of life and to encourage relevant institutions to provide inclusive and integrated environments that ensure their full participation in society, in line with the principles of equal opportunity and social justice.
The seminar addressed several key themes, most notably the rights of persons with disabilities, equality of opportunity, and the empowerment of women with disabilities as both a social and human rights necessity. Discussions also emphasized the importance of creating inclusive physical and service environments, challenging negative stereotypes surrounding disability, and ensuring meaningful participation through supportive policies and rights-based legislation.
The seminar concluded with a set of recommendations intended to support and empower women with disabilities at the educational, social, and economic levels, in accordance with international conventions and relevant national standards.
