University of Basrah Organizes Lecture on Painkillers
The College of Dentistry at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture on the effects of painkillers on beneficial bacteria and their role in supporting the immune system and maintaining a healthy balance in the body.
The lecture aimed to raise awareness of the importance of beneficial bacteria (microbiota) in supporting the immune system and maintaining a healthy balance, while highlighting the indirect effects of painkillers and reinforcing the principle of their rational use in clinical practice.
The lecture, presented by Professor Zahra Kadhim Saeed, included a scientific presentation demonstrating the effect of painkillers on the balance of beneficial bacteria in the body. She explained that these effects are not limited to human cells but extend to causing an imbalance known as dysbiosis, which may increase the likelihood of infections and functional disorders. She also reviewed ways to maintain this balance through proper nutrition or the use of nutritional supplements.
