The University of Basrah Organizes a Training Course on Bioinformatics
The Marine Science Center at the University of Basrah organized a training course entitled “Introduction to Bioinformatics: Principles and Applications.”
The course aimed to equip participants—including students of life sciences, medicine, and computer science, as well as researchers—with fundamental concepts for storing, analyzing, and interpreting biological data using computational tools, while integrating molecular biology with data science.
Delivered by Dr. Hala Fadhil Hassan, along with a number of researchers, the course provided an introduction to Bioinformatics, which has become an essential tool in modern science by bridging biology and technology. It highlighted how this field not only facilitates the understanding of complex biological data but also opens new horizons in medicine, scientific research, and innovation, in addition to its connections with other disciplines.
The course also addressed key contemporary applications across various fields such as environmental science and medicine, and explored the integration of bioinformatics with Artificial Intelligence. It further emphasized the development of analytical thinking skills through understanding methods of extracting meaningful insights from biological data.
