The University of Basrah Organizes a Panel Discussion on National Security
The Basrah and Arabian Gulf Studies Center at the University of Basrah organized a panel discussion entitled “National Security in Light of Regional and International Transformations.”
The discussion aimed to highlight the challenges facing Iraq, particularly in formulating security policies that ensure the development of an effective security system capable of safeguarding national interests within a rapidly evolving international environment marked by intensified regional competition and shifting balances of power between East and West.
The session featured a lecture delivered by Dr. Ahood Abbas, who explained that the concept of national security is no longer confined to the military dimension, but now encompasses economic, societal, electronic, cyber, and political aspects. This, she noted, necessitates the adoption of a comprehensive security approach based on regional cooperation and the strengthening of internal state capacities.
The discussion emphasized the importance of updating national strategies in line with current geopolitical developments, with a focus on enhancing public awareness, investing in cybersecurity, and engaging academic institutions in supporting efforts to achieve security and stability.
