The University of Basrah Organizes a Workshop on Spectral Interferences
The Marine Science Center at the University of Basrah organized a workshop entitled “Spectral Interferences in Flame Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy and Methods for Their Mitigation.”
The workshop aimed to enable participants to identify and understand the types of spectral interferences that may arise during sample analysis using flame atomic absorption spectroscopy, as well as to equip them with practical skills to address and eliminate such interferences in order to obtain accurate and reliable results.
The workshop, delivered by Dr. Bassam Ashour Rasheed, included an introduction to the technique and the operating principles of the flame atomic absorption spectrometer, in addition to common analytical errors. It also addressed different types of spectral interferences, including background interference, spectral line overlap, and non-spectral matrix effects, along with methods of diagnosis and mitigation strategies. Furthermore, it covered quality control procedures and approaches for improving analytical accuracy.
