Faculty Member from the University of Basrah Publishes Research in an International Journal
Dr. Qassim Falih Hassan, a faculty member in the College of Arts at the University of Basrah, published a research paper entitled "The Arabic Dialect of the Muslims of Ana from a Comparative Perspective" in the Journal of Semitic Studies, published by Oxford University Press.
The research discussed the study of the current Arabic dialect of the Muslims of Ana in relation to the Jewish dialect that was previously spoken in the city, in light of the demographic shifts that have affected its linguistic landscape. The results showed a significant convergence between the two dialects, compared to a lesser convergence with the dialects of other cities along the Euphrates River.
