PhD Dissertation at the University of Basrah Examines Potato Varieties Under the Influence of Integrated Fertilization
A PhD dissertation at the University of Basrah investigated the performance of three potato varieties under the influence of six combinations of nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers, as well as organic fertilization with cow manure. The dissertation also assessed some of the varieties' genetic characteristics and studied their stability.
The dissertation, submitted by researcher Ali Ziyara Bakhibakh Al-Azraqi, aimed to determine the optimal fertilization level and its effect on the growth, productivity, and quality of the potato varieties, in addition to evaluating their genetic efficiency in utilizing nutrients.
The study showed the superiority of the "Burin" variety in both growing seasons, achieving the highest marketable and total tuber yield. It recommended planting this variety with the appropriate fertilizer combination and adding organic fertilizer to increase production and achieve production stability.
