University of Basrah Organizes Workshop on the History of Epidemics
The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah organized a workshop on the history of diseases and epidemics in Basra from 1921 to 1939.
The workshop aimed to explore the historical roots of the city's healthcare system and draw lessons from past preventative policies, while also documenting the impact of Basra's climatic and geographical conditions on the course of diseases and the development of public awareness regarding medicine.
The workshop included a lecture presented by faculty member Sabreen Karim Manati, who discussed the health and environmental conditions in Basra during the British Mandate and the early years of the monarchy. She analyzed how the local administration responded to prevalent epidemics at that time and the most important measures it implemented to mitigate the risks of these diseases.
