University of Basrah Holds Its Regular Council Meeting and Approves Reductions in Students’ Tuition Fees
To discuss a range of academic and administrative matters, the University of Basrah Council held its twelfth morning session for the 2025–2026 academic year under the chairmanship of the University President, Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim Al-Asadi, with the attendance of his assistants, the Council Secretary, and Council members.
The session commenced with the approval of the previous meeting minutes, followed by discussions on the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Committee of Opinion), in addition to the university presidency’s vision for advancing academic performance. The Council also reviewed issues related to undergraduate and postgraduate studies, including the approval of postponing first-round examinations for a number of students due to performing Hajj, as well as approving reductions in tuition fees across several colleges. Furthermore, the Council considered requests related to academic supervision and changes to research titles for postgraduate students.
The session also witnessed discussions on a proposal to establish a College of Arts in the Abu Al-Khaseeb District, in addition to the restructuring and reorganization of several advisory offices and the approval of service extensions for a number of faculty members. The Council also reviewed periodic reports presented by the Director of the Quality Assurance Department and representatives of research centers, alongside follow-up measures concerning academic accreditation standards.
The session concluded with honoring the International University Rankings Unit in recognition of its efforts in strengthening the university’s academic presence in recent global rankings, in which the University of Basrah achieved advanced positions.
