University of Basrah Organizes Workshop on Methods for Collecting and Preserving Aquatic Insects
The Marine Science Center at the University of Basrah organized a workshop on methods for collecting and preserving aquatic insects.
The workshop aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to collect and preserve aquatic insects using scientifically sound methods that do not disturb ecological balance.
The workshop, delivered by faculty member Haider Shakir Darwish, covered techniques for collecting specimens using appropriate nets and traps, including drift nets and light traps. It also addressed sampling methods in different aquatic environments such as rivers, lakes, and wetlands, as well as procedures for recording accompanying data, including location, water depth, and temperature. In addition, the lecture explained the processes of specimen preservation, fixation, and storage for both larval and adult insect stages.
