University of Basrah Organizes Workshop on the Treatment of Contaminated Water
The Marine Science Center at the University of Basrah organized a scientific workshop entitled “Treatment of Industrially Contaminated Water Using Selected Agricultural Waste Materials.”
The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the use of agricultural residues, such as straw, grains, palm fronds, and corn cobs, as low-cost and environmentally friendly materials for the treatment of water contaminated with heavy metals.
The workshop, delivered by Dr. Mahasin Ghaffar Hashim, addressed the various types of industrial pollutants, the mechanisms of adsorption, and the capacity of agricultural waste materials to absorb industrial contaminants, particularly heavy metals. It also highlighted methods for evaluating treatment efficiency through the use of analytical instruments, including atomic absorption spectrometry.
