University of Basrah Organizes Lecture on the Traditions of Basrah Residents
The Natural History Museum at the University of Basrah organized a cultural lecture entitled “Customs and Traditions of the People of Basrah – Dried Fish” as part of its activities aimed at promoting the province’s folk heritage and cultural legacy, highlighting its connection to the local environment, and emphasizing its significance as a component of national identity.
The lecture aimed to shed light on one of the traditional practices associated with the lives of Basrah residents and to highlight the importance of dried fish as an integral part of the region’s culinary and social heritage. It also sought to document the traditional methods of preparing and preserving dried fish that have been passed down through generations.
The lecture, delivered by Mrs. Seham Ghadhban Abdul Hassan, addressed several topics, including the origins and historical development of this tradition, methods of preparing and preserving dried fish, and its significance in the daily lives of the people of Basrah. The lecture also discussed its role in reflecting the unique characteristics of the local environment and the rich cultural heritage of the province.
