University of Basrah Holds Lecture on Psychological and Historical Counseling and Addressing the Effects of Repression
The Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basrah, in cooperation with the College of Education for Women, held a scientific lecture entitled “Psychological and Historical Counseling and its Role in Addressing the Effects of the Ba'athist Era of Repression.”
The lecture aimed to identify the psychological and educational effects left by periods of repression and fear, and to demonstrate the role of psychological and educational counseling in promoting psychological and social adjustment and building a more stable and psychologically secure society.
The lecture, presented by Dr. Rafif Abdulhafiz Al-Riyahi and faculty members Sura Sabti Nasser and Rasel Adel Naama, covered topics including understanding the relationship between traumatic experiences and mental health, the transmission of fear and anxiety across generations, the effects of oppression on identity and self-confidence, the role of psychological counseling in recovery, and the importance of educational guidance in building a balanced personality capable of dialogue and decision-making. The lecture also reviewed appropriate counseling strategies for enhancing psychological security and self-confidence among students and youth, and encouraged educational institutions to adopt preventative programs that contribute to instilling the values of tolerance, coexistence, and psychological resilience.
