PhD Dissertation at the University of Basrah Investigates the Effect of Obesity and Diabetes on Incretin Levels in Male Rats
A PhD dissertation at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Basrah, investigated the effect of obesity and diabetes on incretin levels and some physiological and biochemical parameters in male rats treated with liraglutide.
The study, presented by researcher Hanadi Abdul-Jabbar Hafez, aimed to investigate the effect of both Saxenda and Victoza on body weight, incretin and leptin levels, as well as blood lipid profiles, incretin gene expression in the intestine, and the histological changes that occur in the liver and pancreas before and after treatment.
The study concluded that although Saxenda and Victoza are similar in chemical structure, each has a more pronounced effect than the other. Saxenda is used for weight loss and obesity control, while Victoza has a more effective role in controlling elevated blood sugar levels and managing diabetes.
