University of Basrah Organizes Workshop on Landscape Architecture and Afforestation
The Marine Science Center at the University of Basrah organized a workshop entitled “Landscape Architecture and Afforestation: A Professional Responsibility Toward a Better Environment.”
The workshop aimed to promote the concept that planning and implementing landscape architecture and afforestation projects extend beyond aesthetic considerations and constitute a professional and ethical responsibility aimed at achieving genuine environmental sustainability and improving the quality of life in urban communities.
The workshop, delivered by a number of researchers, addressed several themes, including the integration of aesthetics and environmental functionality. It focused on the fundamentals of sustainable design and the development of green spaces that take into account water-use efficiency, biodiversity, and the use of drought-resistant native plants. The workshop also highlighted the role of afforestation in improving environmental conditions, reducing pollution, and enhancing air and soil quality. In addition, it emphasized the professional responsibilities of engineers, adherence to sustainability standards, conducting environmental assessments prior to implementation, and ensuring the periodic maintenance of plants to guarantee their long-term sustainability.
