Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Examines the Effectiveness of Legal Rules in Addressing Cyber Warfare
A master’s thesis at the College of Law, University of Basrah, examined the effectiveness of the rules of International Humanitarian Law in addressing cyber warfare.
The thesis, presented by student Noor Al-Huda Mustafa, aimed to assess the extent to which the principles of International Humanitarian Law are effective in confronting cyber warfare and to evaluate the adequacy of international legal rules in regulating hostile acts carried out through electronic means during armed conflicts.
The thesis comprised two chapters in which the researcher discussed the conceptual framework of cyber warfare, its characteristics, and its principal forms. It also examined its legal nature and distinguished it from related concepts, while highlighting the consequences of cyberattacks targeting individuals, civilian objects, and critical infrastructure.
