University of Basrah Organizes Workshop on Palm Diseases and Pests in the Governorate
The Basra and Arabian Gulf Studies Center at the University of Basrah, in cooperation with the Center for Development and Continuing Education, organized a workshop entitled "Palm Diseases and Pests in Basra Governorate and Methods of Prevention and Control."
The workshop aimed to introduce the concept of palm diseases and pests in general and highlight the most common ones in Basra Governorate, given the economic, agricultural, and cultural importance of palm trees in the governorate.
The workshop, presented by Dr. Mohammed Hashim Hussein, included a presentation on the classification of palm diseases and pests and their causes, as well as an explanation of the factors affecting their spread within the governorate, whether environmental or agricultural. The workshop also discussed the negative effects of these pests on agricultural production and the resulting economic losses.
