PhD Dissertation at the University of Basrah Explores Fusarium Wilt Control in Tomatoes
A PhD dissertation at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, investigated the synergistic effect of manufactured organic fertilizer and the biofungus Trichoderma in controlling Fusarium wilt disease in tomatoes.
The dissertation, presented by researcher Mohammed Abdul-Hassan Barisim, aimed to isolate the fungi from different agricultural areas and test their enzymatic activity in producing organic fertilizer (compost). It also studied the efficacy of using this compost with the biofungus Trichoderma as an alternative to chemical control.
The results demonstrated the effectiveness of this combination in reducing plant disease incidence and improving plant health.
The dissertation recommended raising awareness among farmers about adopting compost with Trichoderma as a sustainable and environmentally friendly option for controlling plant diseases.
