PhD Dissertation at the University of Basrah Investigates Mycoplasma Haemophilus in Horses
A PhD dissertation at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Basrah, investigated "A Clinical and Diagnostic Study of Mycoplasma Haemophilus in Horses in Southern Iraq."
The dissertation, submitted by researcher Ali Jarad Lafteh, aimed to diagnose the causative agent of Mycoplasma Haemophilus and study its associated changes, representing the first study of its kind in Iraq.
The dissertation included an examination of the clinical and vital signs of infected horses, hematological changes and coagulation factors, and an assessment of acute-phase protein levels, oxygen saturation, bicarbonate, and blood pH. It also investigated macroscopic and histological changes and compared microscopic and molecular diagnostic methods.
The dissertation concluded that infection of horses with hemotrophic mycoplasma (Mycoplasma haemophilus species) is a major cause of anemia accompanied by multiple clinical signs.
