University of Basrah Participates in Scientific Seminar on Strengthening Maternal Health Protection and Addressing Climate Change
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah, represented by its Dean, Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed Al-Shawi, and a number of its faculty members, participated in a scientific seminar entitled “Protecting Maternal Health in the Context of Climate Change.” The event was organized by CARE Iraq as part of the “Mother Care – Phase II” project in Basrah Governorate.
The seminar reviewed the project’s achievements and explored mechanisms for strengthening the resilience of maternal healthcare services in addressing the impacts of climate change, with the participation of representatives from government institutions, academic bodies, and civil society organizations.
Dr. Al-Shawi emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts, support for scientific research, and institutional partnerships to advance sustainable development and safeguard the communities most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
