Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Explores Advanced Tissue Culture Techniques for Banana Propagation and Quality Improvement
A master’s thesis at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, entitled “The Effect of Culture Medium Type, Zeatin, and Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid) on the Growth of Hybrid Banana Plants Using Plant Tissue Culture Technology,” examined advanced tissue culture techniques for the propagation and quality improvement of hybrid banana plants.
The thesis, presented by researcher Nidhal Abadi Hussein, aimed to evaluate the effects of culture medium type, the plant growth regulator zeatin, and Vitamin B5 on enhancing the growth and in vitro propagation of hybrid banana plants.
The study compared two culture media and evaluated different treatment concentrations to investigate shoot formation, shoot elongation, and root development. It also included the analysis of bioactive compounds using gas chromatography and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy.
The thesis recommended adopting the most effective treatments to support large-scale commercial propagation and conducting further applied research in this field.
