University of Basrah President Receives Basrah Traffic Director to Discuss Mechanisms for Joint Cooperation
The President of the University of Basrah, Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kazem Al-Asadi, received the Director of Basrah Traffic Directorate, Major General Ali Muhaysin Shiaa, at his office in the University Presidency in an official visit aimed at strengthening cooperation and coordination between the academic and traffic authorities.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed developing an integrated traffic plan to reduce congestion on roads leading to the university’s college complexes, including assigning stationary and mobile patrols to regulate traffic at the University’s main entrances. They also discussed installing surveillance cameras at the entrance to the University Presidency overlooking the Shatt al-Arab Corniche, as well as ensuring the safe and smooth passage of students and academic staff during peak hours.
With regard to traffic awareness and education, the two sides agreed to organize a series of regular educational workshops and seminars within the colleges, in addition to launching joint awareness campaigns involving students to promote safe driving practices and compliance with safety guidelines, with the aim of reducing traffic accidents.
The discussions also addressed logistical and technical support. Al-Asadi expressed the University’s readiness to have its research centers and engineering staff provide scientific studies and technical consultations to support traffic management and the development of the road network in the governorate.
For his part, the Director of Basrah Traffic expressed his high appreciation for University of Basrah and its academic standing, affirming the continuation of close cooperation to provide the best services to the university community and the people of Basrah.
