University of Basrah Master’s Thesis Examines Argumentation Patterns in Qur’anic Stories
A master’s thesis at the College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Basrah, examined Argumentation Patterns in Selected Qur’anic Stories, focusing on the story of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) as one of the Qur’anic narratives rich in argumentative strategies that contribute to clarifying meanings and enhancing the persuasive power of Qur’anic discourse.
The thesis, submitted by researcher Intizar Khairy Jasim Al-Mayahi, aimed to identify the most frequently used types of argumentation patterns in the story of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him), examine their pragmatic functions and how they contribute to reinforcing the meanings and narrative structure of the Qur’an, as well as analyse and classify these patterns within a contemporary theoretical framework in argumentation and pragmatics studies.
The thesis highlighted the academic significance of enriching the fields of Qur’anic linguistics, pragmatics, and argumentation studies by providing a systematic analysis of the functions of argumentation and its role in strengthening the persuasive power of religious discourse. It also offers an analytical framework that can support researchers in studying religious and literary texts and contribute to future research in language and rhetoric.
