PhD Dissertation at the University of Basrah Explores Proposed Sculptural Designs for Government Buildings
A PhD dissertation at the College of Fine Arts, University of Basrah, explored "Proposed Sculptural Designs for Government Buildings in Basra Governorate - An Applied Study."
The dissertation, submitted by researcher Hani Taher Salman, aimed to develop proposed sculptural designs that suit the nature of government buildings in Basra Governorate, and to study their visual impact and how they contribute to creating an aesthetic and interactive atmosphere in these architectural environments.
The dissertation's scientific and artistic significance lies in its emphasis that contemporary sculpture in public spaces is no longer a tool for embodying the authority of censorship and prohibition, or for reinforcing rigid hierarchies between state institutions and citizens. Rather, it has transformed into an interactive visual discourse that seeks to liberate urban space, making it a shared space that fosters human connection and artistic transparency.
