Master's Thesis at the University of Basrah Investigates Thiazolidine Derivatives and Their Activity
The College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Basrah investigated a master's thesis entitled "Preparation and Characterization of Some Thiazolidine Derivatives and Studying Their Activity as Anticancer Agents and Amylase Inhibitors."
The thesis, presented by researcher Jamal Rasheef Aakoul, aimed to prepare novel thiazolidine amide derivatives derived from the drug phenazone and to study their biological activity, mechanisms of programmed cell death, cell cycle arrest, and autophagy.
The study involved preparing the thiazolidine ring from the reaction of aldehydes with the amino acid cysteine, followed by the preparation and characterization of amide derivatives using spectroscopic techniques.
The results showed good activity of the prepared compounds against amylase enzymes and cancer cells, with low toxicity for some compounds to normal healthy cells, in addition to their effect on programmed cell death.
