University of Basrah Doctoral Dissertation Examines the Biological Activity of Monocarbonyl Curcumin and Its Derivatives
The College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Basrah conducted a doctoral dissertation entitled Synthesis and Study of the Biological Activity of Monocarbonyl Curcumin and Its Derivatives.
The dissertation, submitted by researcher Haider Saleh Mahdi, aimed to synthesize symmetrical and unsymmetrical compounds as well as heterocyclic derivatives using ultrasound-assisted and conventional methods, and to compare their efficiency.
The synthesized compounds were characterized using infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry.
The study evaluated their activity against ovarian, prostate, and colon cancer cells.
It also included a theoretical study involving geometry optimization and calculation of the energy gap between frontier molecular orbitals, thereby supporting the potential pharmaceutical applications of the synthesized compounds.
