University of Basrah Master’s Thesis Examines the Synthesis and Computational Evaluation of Liquid Crystalline Compounds and Their Biological Activity
A master’s thesis at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Basrah, examined the synthesis and characterization of liquid crystalline compounds, their biological activity, and computational modelling.
The thesis, submitted by researcher Haider Hami Gattar, aimed to synthesize 14 new homogeneous and heterogeneous dimeric compounds derived from benzothiazole and investigate the effects of alkyl chain length and the type of substituent on their liquid-crystalline properties.
The synthesized compounds were characterized using differential scanning calorimetry and polarized light microscopy.
The study addressed the classification of liquid crystals and the influence of molecular structure on the properties of the synthesized dimers, contributing to a better understanding of their behaviour and supporting the future development of their scientific, biological, and computational applications.
