Master’s Thesis at University of Basrah Examines the Effect of Starch-Coated Urea on Maize Growth
A master’s thesis at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, investigated the effect of starch-coated urea fertilizer on nitrogen availability and the growth of maize plants.
The thesis, submitted by researcher Noor Al-Huda Kareem Jasim, aimed to study the effect of starch coating on nitrogen availability in the soil and its impact on plant growth, as well as to evaluate its role in regulating nitrogen release and reducing nitrogen losses.
The study compared coated and uncoated urea and monitored nitrogen availability and growth indicators in maize plants.
The results demonstrated the importance of starch coating in improving plant nitrogen-use efficiency and reducing nitrogen losses.
The study recommended expanding the use of natural materials for fertilizer coating and conducting field trials to determine the optimal coating ratios, thereby improving fertilizer-use efficiency and supporting sustainable agricultural production.
