University of Basrah Examines the Poetry of Kadhim Al-Laith in a Stylistic Study
A master’s thesis at the College of Education Qurna, University of Basrah, examined “The Poetry of Kadhim Al-Laith: A Stylistic Study.”
The thesis, presented by student Rawaa Wathiq Shammakhi, shed light on the poetic experience of Kadhim Al-Laith as one of the distinctive voices and prominent figures of contemporary poetry. His poetic output has extended over more than four decades, with his poems characterized by a powerful poetic voice, aesthetic quality, depth of experience, and linguistic density.
Drawing on the stylistic approach, the study concluded that the poetic texts constitute an integrated linguistic structure encompassing multiple levels, while demonstrating notable aesthetic qualities in rhythmic construction, linguistic formulation, and imagery, reflecting the poet’s sustained poetic expression and the composure of his experience.
The thesis recommended expanding the critical study of Kadhim Al-Laith’s poetic experience from modern critical perspectives and encouraging researchers to explore further stylistic and semantic dimensions of his poetry. It also emphasized the importance of documenting and studying the poetic works of contemporary poets from the region as a contribution to the literary heritage.
