University of Basrah Affirms its Full Support for its Staff's Demands and Calls for Consideration of Students' Interests During the Protests
The University of Basrah administration announced today its absolute solidarity and full support for the legitimate demands of its staff, including employees, technical personnel, and academics, who have been demonstrating and protesting for three days. The administration emphasized that the University Council, with all its members and department heads, stands united with the members of the educational institution.
University President Dr. Aqeel Fadhil Al-Dahhan explained in a statement addressed to the demonstrators and protesters that the university administration has not taken any measures to pressure or restrict the participants in the demonstrations, fully understanding that the employees are seeking their legitimate rights related to salaries, allowances, and financial entitlements.
He pointed out that the final decision regarding these issues does not rest solely with the University administration or the Ministry of Higher Education, but rather falls under the purview of the Ministry of Finance and the Council of Ministers.
The University President added that the administration is eager to receive an official written document detailing all the demands accurately, so that it can be submitted and followed up directly with the Ministry and relevant authorities.
In the same context, the university president's assistants for academic and administrative affairs affirmed that the administrative procedures related to monthly salaries and financial auditing are proceeding smoothly and are typically completed within specific timeframes each month before being officially submitted to the ministry through designated representatives. They also expressed their hope that educational and service operations would continue at a minimum level while these protests are being addressed, in order to avoid disrupting students' interests, particularly during examination periods.
