PhD Dissertation at the University of Basrah Investigates the Bioactivity of Iraqi Bee Pollen
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah discussed a PhD dissertation on the bioactive and enzymatic properties of Iraqi bee pollen and its incorporation into the production of functional foods.
The dissertation, presented by researcher Al-Hussein Zaki Za’alan, aimed to evaluate the nutritional and biological properties of bee pollen collected from 13 regions across Iraq and investigate its potential use in the production of functional foods.
The study examined its chemical composition, bioactive compounds, enzymatic activities, antioxidant properties, and antibacterial and anticancer activities.
The findings showed that bee pollen is rich in proteins and antioxidants and possesses promising bioactive properties. Its incorporation into protein bar production also enhanced the nutritional and functional value of the product, making it a comprehensive functional food source.
