Master's Thesis at the University of Basrah Investigates Iron Fertility Assessment in the Governorate's Soils
A master's thesis at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, investigated iron fertility assessment in some soils of Basra Governorate and the effect of adding iron along with agricultural sulfur on the growth of yellow corn.
The thesis, submitted by researcher Ruwaida Abdul Jalil Issa, aimed to determine the iron fertility status in the governorate's soils and to study the effect of iron and agricultural sulfur on crop growth, iron absorption, and chlorophyll content.
The study included identifying the forms of iron in ten agricultural soils and characterizing its compounds.
The results showed that adding agricultural sulfur reduced soil reactivity and increased iron availability, while the combined application improved yellow corn growth. The study identified 2.94 mg Fe/kg⁻¹ of soil as a guideline for the need for iron fertilization.
