PhD Dissertation at the University of Basrah Investigates the Effect of Alpha-Lipoic Acid on Carp Growth
A PhD dissertation at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, investigated the effect of adding alpha-lipoic acid on the growth of common carp fed high-fat and high-carbohydrate diets.
The dissertation, submitted by researcher Nada Rafid Othman, aimed to evaluate the partial replacement of fishmeal with fat or starch and to demonstrate the role of the acid in improving feed utilization efficiency and reducing production costs.
The study examined growth indicators, feed conversion ratio, body composition, amino and fatty acid levels, and some blood biochemical indicators.
The results showed that fat was superior to starch in feed replacement efficiency, while alpha-lipoic acid contributed to improving body composition and some biochemical indicators.
