Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Honors University of Basrah Professors
This morning, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, represented by the Deputy Minister for Scientific Research, Dr. Haider Abdul-Dhad, honored a distinguished group comprising dozens of researchers and professors from University of Basrah, recognized for their outstanding scientific contributions and international research achievements. The ceremony was attended by Ms. Sarah Al-Husseini, a member of the local government council, as well as the presidents of Southern Technical University of Engineering, Al-Kunuz Private University, Iraq University of Technology, and Al-Maqal University, along with the deans of colleges at University of Basrah.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Minister for Higher Education said: “I am pleased and honored today to recognize a distinguished group of researchers and professors at University of Basrah, the mother university and a university renowned for its generosity and academic excellence. All higher education institutions in central and southern Iraq recognize this university for its academic rigor and scientific standing. This university has made, and continues to make, significant contributions that have produced numerous scholars of whom Iraq is proud throughout the history of this distinguished institution. Despite the fact that University of Basrah is relatively recent in the history of contemporary Iraq, having been established in 1964, it represents an extension of the heritage of one of the oldest civilizations and Islamic cities in Iraq.
Basrah was established in 13 AH and is the cradle of Islam in Iraq and a capital of Islamic culture and thought. It remains a capital of culture, art, and literature. It is therefore an honor for me to stand at its podium before this distinguished gathering of academic elites and university leaders and to serve as the patron of this ceremony honoring its scholars and researchers.”
For his part, the President of University of Basrah, Professor Dr. Aqeel Fadhil Al-Dahan, expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for its recognition of the university’s scholars, stating: “Today, we celebrate together with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research the honoring of an important group of our scholars and researchers at a university that has played a major role in supplying various departments and institutions with hundreds, indeed thousands, of talented individuals and scientific capabilities, as well as contributing to the establishment of numerous universities in neighboring governorates. Those being honored today represent the elite who have achieved significant accomplishments for the university at international forums and in leading international scientific journals indexed in prestigious databases such as Clarivate and Scopus. They also include scholars who have attained the highest positions in global scientific rankings and achieved the highest rates of scholarly citations.”
