Master's Thesis at the University of Basrah Explores the Synergistic Anti-Inflammatory Effects
A master's thesis at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, explored the synergistic anti-inflammatory and protective effects on the kidneys and liver of alpha-lipoic acid in combination with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
The thesis, submitted by student Ibrahim Waheed Kadhim, aimed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and analgesic efficacy of alpha-lipoic acid, study its synergistic effect when combined with NSAIDs, and assess its protective role in reducing potential stomach, liver, and kidney damage resulting from NSAID use.
The thesis comprised four chapters in which the student discussed the potential use of alpha-lipoic acid as an adjunct to enhance the therapeutic effect of NSAIDs, which could improve their efficacy. Its use as an adjunct may also contribute to reducing side effects.
