Master's Thesis at the University of Basrah Explores the Treatment of Pesticide-Contaminated Soil
A master's thesis at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, explored the biological treatment of pesticide-contaminated soil using isolated fungal species.
The study, presented by researcher Mohammed Qusay Abdul-Munim, aimed to evaluate the efficacy of local fungal isolates in treating soil contaminated with the pesticide Emamectin benzoate, and to test their tolerance to the pesticide and their ability to break down its residues, thus contributing to reducing its harmful environmental effects.
The study demonstrated the importance of utilizing local fungi in environmentally friendly biological treatment techniques.
It recommended expanding the field testing of their efficacy, as well as the possibility of developing bio-preparations from effective strains for use in cleaning agricultural soils of pesticide residues and complex chemicals.
