Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Explores the Development of Swarm Intelligence Algorithm Population Initialization
A Master’s thesis at the College of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Basrah, investigated the development of strategies for initializing the initial population and determining its size in swarm intelligence algorithms.
The study, presented by student Zainab Obaid Falah, aimed to develop a new framework called the Federated Population Initialization Framework (FPIF) by integrating multiple sources for solution generation. The framework seeks to balance solution quality, diversity, and search-space coverage while maintaining computational efficiency.
The results demonstrated that the proposed framework outperformed eleven other methods, ranking first on conventional benchmark functions at dimensions of 30, 100, and 500. It also maintained a position among the top three methods across the test suites, with only limited additional computational cost.
